GABA [Gamma−aminobutyric Acid]
Gamma−aminobutyric acid (GABA) is an amino acid found in foods,such as vegetables, fruits, and fermented foods. In mammals, GABA is generated from glutamic acid by glutamic acid decarboxylase and functions as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It fulfills a number of functions in the brain and affects nonneuronal tissues outside the brain.
